This is Coco Chanel, a Maltese. The vet thinks she is about 8 years old. Coco was surrendered by her owner who has cancer. She had heard of WLK and asked our rescuer in Kuwait to find Coco a loving home.
When Coco arrived in the States, she was terrified of everything and everyone. Like most of the dogs we save, she had never touched grass before, or used stairs. Coco would not let anyone touch her or her leash. With a lot of patience and many treats, our foster was finally able to gain Coco’s trust. She started coming out of her crate and wanted to be petted. Coco has come a long way in the short time she has been here.
Coco is a very loving dog once she gets to know and trust you. She knows some basic commands such as: sit, come, let’s go potty, crate. She is in training with her foster and is working on other commands. She is housebroken and walks very well on the leash without pulling. Coco loves to be with her human and will cuddle with you on the couch or in a chair, or just simply lay at your feet.
Coco is a fearful dog that is very shy, and it takes her a long time to trust people. She can be nervous around new people and new environments, so it is important that her owner take precautions and not force her into interactions with new people and/or animals. She does not do well with other dogs and if she is forced into a situation with them, or feels uncomfortable, she can become aggressive towards them. Patience is the key, and her new owner must be watchful of her environment.
Coco’s home in Kuwait was a quiet one where she was the only dog, and we would like to find her a similar-type home without children, dogs, or cats. We would also like to find her a home with a patient owner who can spend a lot of time with her and help her with her fear issues.
Coco arrived very matted and was recently shaved. She now sports fancy sweaters to stay warm, and should be back to her original fluffy self in no time!
We would like to have Coco adopted around the Baltimore area. She will come up to date on her shots and microchipped. She is not yet spayed, but we will spay her soon and cover the costs of the procedure.
If you are interested in adopting her please fill out an online application. We will then contact you to conduct a home visit and, once you are approved, a $100 deposit is required.
