This gorgeous guy is Smokey. Smokey was found left to die while tied to a tree outside the Friday Market, a place where animals are sold under inhumane conditions. Our rescuer saw a video that someone had posted of him and had a friend save him and take him to the vet.
When Smokey arrived in the States, we discovered that he had hip dysplasia, a very common genetic condition for German shepherds that causes severe hip pain and lameness. Smokey recently had surgeries on his hips to enable him to have a pain-free, normal life. His first surgery went very well and he is presently recovering from the second one. We anticipate that he will be ready to be adopted on August 1. Smokey was also recently tested for degenerative myelopathy, and it came back negative.
Smokey is a friendly pup that does well with older kids. He does tend to resource guard his food and toys, so he would be best in a home as an only dog. Smokey would also do best in a home with a backyard and few stairs.
We would like to have Smokey adopted around the Baltimore area. He will come up to date on his shots, neutered, and microchipped.
If you are interested in adopting him, please fill out an online application. We will then contact you to conduct a home visit and, once you are approved, a $100 deposit is required.
