Walter is the true definition of a survivor! When our rescuer found him, he had been shot several times, he had dislocated hips and broken legs, and he had been left for dead. Our rescuer took him to the vet who performed surgery to remove the bullets and address his injuries. He is now recovering well! He recently arrived in the States and is living with his foster parents and foster dog sibling Peanut (another WLK rescue!) in Baltimore.
Walter’s foster mom writes, “When Walter came into our lives, we had no idea what was in store for us with his traumatic past and recovery from his surgeries. Since he arrived, he has found his voice, instigated solid play with other dogs, gained some weight, and discovered that he loves sleeping in his crate.
Walter and our dog Peanut get along great! He hasn’t been around cats, but he has met a few other dogs in the neighborhood while on a leash, and the introductions have gone well. Considering he was a stray, he walks pretty well on a leash; he listens when we tell him to stop, and he stops on his own to sniff everything.
His back legs are getting stronger every day, although he does still get very tired and spends a lot of time lying down. When he first got here, he lay around a lot, but now he has started sitting by the front door, watching the world go by. He has also started responding to his name. He loves treats and he really loves to be petted! He doesn’t seem to be food or toy aggressive; Peanut has taken food from his bowl and toys from his mouth and Walter pretty much ignores him.”
Walter will need continuing strength training for his legs and hips, and we will be starting swim therapy with him soon. We would like to find him an owner who can continue with it after he is adopted. We would also like for him to go to a home with one-floor living and without stairs. Walter is a great dog with a big heart that truly deserves to find his forever home!
We would like to have Walter adopted around the Baltimore area. He will come up to date on his shots and microchipped. He is not yet neutered, but we will cover the costs associated with the procedure at a facility that WLK chooses or approves.
If you are interested in adopting him, please fill out an online application. We will then contact you to conduct a home visit and, once you are approved, a $100 deposit is required.
